SNAPPING
Chamberlain was in Richmond for her yearly visit to company
headquarters. She left the hotel and hailed a cab, giving the driver
the address of where she wanted to go. When he pulled away from the
curb, the driver held his left hand out the window and snapped his
fingers four times. And, a few blocks later, Chamberlain noticed he
repeated this strange action.
By the time she arrived at her destination, the driver had
repeated the habit at least two dozen times. Being very curious,
when she paid the fare she asked him, "What's all this finger snapping
about?"
When he handed her change, she noticed that he had a wild
gleam in his eye. He said, "Keeps the Bengal tigers away."
"I beg your pardon?" Chamberlain said.
"The reason I snap my fingers is because it keeps the Bengal
tigers away," replied the driver.
"What are you babbling about?" she cried out. "This is
Richmond, Virginia. There are no Bengal tigers around here."
"See?" he said triumphantly. "It works."
